Kart Demolition Arena


My entry for the Experimental Gameplay Project in June 2011.

The game’s goal was to create a fun deathmatch game using cars instead of the ‘normal’ humans/robots/whatever floats your mind.

It can be considered something between GTA 2 and Quake 3 Arena, if you want so.

I’m not really happy with how this came out, concept didn’t stand right from the beginning and I often changed directions throughout programming. There’s quite a few features even coded but not enabled.

Map isn’t as pretty as I it could be, I wanted to go for a small city but the time limit cut me off there.

Collision detection is barely mediocre, something I haven’t got right for pixel based movement yet lol.

‘Bots’ are stupid as hell, they drive around nodes I placed in Tiled. Rotating them totally screwed up the game and since I ran out of time I just left it as it is.

Also the game is hard as fuck, I haven’t beaten it as of writing this. Let me know in the comments if you managed to beat it :)


W, A, S and D to drive around, mouse to point and shoot, Q and E to swap weapons. Tab opens a crappy scoreboard. Real basic.

I used the Slick engine for this project, thus it’s written in Java. Haven’t managed to get an applet running, awesome error messages a la ‘Download failed’ don’t neccessarily help me there…

    Pretty fun. I wasn’t able to beat it. Once I realized you had each weapon already from the start, it got a lot more interesting. :)
